Maya Chin is an eighth grader at Albany Middle School. She enjoys playing basketball, drawing, painting, and making art in general. She lives in her Albany home with her parents and dog, Yoko, who is a black Lab-Australian cattle dog mix. She plays on three basketball teams – a Japanese American church team called Ohtani, an Asian tournament team called the East Bay Rising Suns, and her school team, the Albany Cobras. She enjoys eating good food with her family and hanging out with her friends. Her great grandfather was a community activist in New York Chinatown which was a big factor in her topic choice. She likes to visit San Francisco and Oakland Chinatown whenever she can with her family.
WelcomeHave you ever been to Chinatown? When you go to Chinatown you are opened up to flavorful community full of history and culture. Ever wonder how it became what it is today? Chinatowns, like all things, had to start somewhere. This website will educate you on the history of San Francisco Chinatown all the way up to modern day.
This project is dedicated to my great-grandfather Kong Chow Chun.
